Nimu County
Located in the middle-towards-south part of Tibet on the northern bank of the middle reaches of Brahmaputra, Nimu County is 3,275 square kilometers around and has a population of 28,000. In Tibetan Nimu means “ears of wheat? Under the administration of Lhasa City, the county government is situated at Tarong Town. In Nimu, the chain of mountains rolls up and down; valleys cross through in length and breadth; with an average elevation of over 4,000 meters above sea level, the terrain descends from west to east. This land enjoys distinctive seasons and strong sunlight, and the rains are concentrated in summer. The famous local products consist of white-green pear, Tibetan paper and Tibetan incense. Situated in the northwestern part of the county near the Ma-Ni Highway, Tarong Town has a population of about 1,000. The famous Nimu Iron Chain Bridge was made by Tangdujiebu the eminent bridge expert of Tibet in former times. |
