Lhozhag County
Lhozhag County lies in the south of Tibet at the south foot of the Himalayas. As one of the frontier counties, it covers an area of 4,426 square kilometers and has a population of about 17,000. Under the jurisdiction of Shannan Prefecture, the seat of the county is situated at Gabo Town. Belonging to the Himalayas mountain area standing within the valleys of the lake basin in southern Tibet, the terrain descends from west to east. In this area, six peaks are 6,000 meters high above sea level, among which the highest is 7,538.
Shangjiguduo Monastery is about 200 meter away from the Shequ Town offices. Established in the late half of the 11th century, the monastery has been well known for its special architectural style. Lots of valuable murals and some hand-written copies of the Buddhist sutras of the Tobo reign are well preserved in the monastery. Lalong Monastery was built in the 12th century. The famous Tibetan historical book A Happy Feast for Wise Men was completed in this monastery. Other scenic spots include the subtropical landscape sightseeing area and the Gulha Kangri Peak.
