Burang County
Situated on the valley zone of the south side of the Himalayas, Burang County lies in the southwest of Tibet and in the south of Ngari (Ali). The three countries of China, India and Nepal have a common boundary here. It covers an area of 12,497 square kilometers and has a population of 73,000. The county government is under the jurisdiction of Ngari (Ali) Prefecture and the county seat is located at Jirang. The highland mountain areas dominate the basic feature of the county’s topography. The middle part of the territory is higher than those around. The Naimonanyi Peak (Gurla) is very famous. The wild animals include wild yak, wild donkey, yellow goat, antelope, rock goat, argali, wolf, fox, lynx, leopard and marmot. The famous Holy Mountain Kangrinboqe (Kailash) and Holy Lake Mapam Yamco (Manasarovar) are the fairyland of the tourists and pilgrims home and abroad. |
